The Isaac Newton Trust Widening Participation and Induction Fund (WPIF) was set up in March 2022. It is based on a £1.3m donation from Trinity College, Cambridge. The WPIF aims to help Colleges reach out to disadvantaged, prospective undergraduates and their families. This includes their teachers, parents, and guardians.
Each academic year, £400,000 is usually available. The maximum for any College is £50,000. The year runs from October to September. We expect the Fund to last until September 2026, when the programme will end.
The WPIF will support projects for under-represented, 'home fee status' undergraduates in UK higher education, especially at the University of Cambridge.
Such projects may include:
- Developing subject interests in younger students, including those in primary school.
- Encouraging Year 12 students to apply to Cambridge or other top universities.
- Helping new students to improve their knowledge and study skills beyond school-level work.
